No Iridium		+I either misplaced the phone or the TSA got it. Stratos sold me as a customer to some company in Florida, but with no phone, I never gave them my credit card number. So, I'm incommunicado at sea right now. I doubt anyone who reads this will care as my parents only visit my (this) web page for the photos.

To my friends: Please note that I now often use caller ID to screen calls to my home phone. I let my answering machine pick up the calls from numbers I don't recognize or show up as out of area. Many calls made using prepaid calling cards show up as coming from 800, 877 or other area codes that telemarketers also use a lot. The chance is very small that I will answer such a call or know that someone other than a telemarketer attempted to make contact with me if the person who calls doesn't leave a message. Tell my machine it's you, and I'll very likely pick up if I'm there. Please also note that my modem passes me call waiting caller phone numbers when I'm online, but I haven't had much luck receiving those calls. Usually, when your number comes up on my screen, I click on "ignore the call," get the computer offline and call you back. If you get my home voice mail in fewer than five rings, chances are I'm talking on the phone or online. My cell phone is out of range at my house, so don't expect me to receive cell calls at home or to pick up cellular voice mail until the next time I drive into town and remember to turn the cell phone on. If I'm living on a boat in town (doing shipyard work), the cell phone is always on, but I am not always near it. Steel decks & bulkheads block the signal, so when I'm working below decks, I leave it up where the caller id will tell me who tried to call. If you hear my cellular voicemail message start, you can bypass it by pressing the * key. Calls to Iridium are even more chancy. I seldom have it on unless I'm at sea (or, maybe vacationing abroad or camping) and expecting your call or about to pick up email.

Note also: Email coming to my Tx3 mailbox (the one I check) is filtered by Skynet's excellent spam filter system. Mail from senders who are not on my allowed senders list gets fed through a spam filter. If they score low enough in the spam checking (and lots of actual spam does) then they get a challenge reply (challenging you to prove you're a person and not an automated spam sending system). If you properly reply to the challenge, then your email gets through. If you're on my allowed senders list, then your email gets through unchallenged. Sometimes, when I am someplace where I have 40k or faster internet access, I look at my quarantined emails that did not get through and haven't yet been automatically deleted, but I wouldn't count on your message being spotted this way. You can also use the link below to send me a message, bypassing the filter system. If you use it to send me your address, and if I'm not at sea, I'll get online and add you to the allowed senders list manually. I'm also going to make up a form on my site where you can type in your email address and click a button to get it listed, but I haven't gotten around to that yet. I apologize for the hassle, but this is currently an amazingly effective way to stop the spam.

This is also a way to get me your email address so that I can manually add it to my allowed senders list in my user preferences which list supercedes both the "always deny" list and the spam filter. About half the messages I get from my homepagemail page are blank. Probably lots come from some computer trying all the links, but do understand that it sends only what you type. If you're thinking that by sending me a blank message, it will somehow know your email address and tell me, then you're attributing too much power to this page. It only knows to send what you actually type.
