When Dee and I got married we each had a house, so we sold one and with the proceeds bought a parcel of land. I designed the house myself, intending to keep it quite small. It ended up being about 760 square feet, with a loft bedroom. I did most of the construction myself, subcontracting the excavation, septic installation, shingling and drywall finishing. Since it was a pay-as-you-go project, construction took about 6 years. It is not quite complete, but then, what project ever is complete?
Here's a picture of the kitchen and living room taken shortly after we moved in. The kitchen looks pretty much the same, but we've replaced some furniture and got a new rug in the living room, so it looks quite different now. Click on any photo to view it full size
